photographers note: I got a call at 2 in the afternoon. Can you photograph Nobel prize winner Norman E. Borlaug in your studio at six tonight. Our story is about Borlang’s development of a high-yield, disease-resistant strain of wheat so we’d like him holding a robust armful of wheat. Now where am I going to find an armful of wheat in January in Washington, DC. Many calls but a flower shop had some. What a nice man! Borlaug at about 90 was traveling alone could not have been cooperative. We both had a great time, I learned about a lot, and the wheat found a home at the studio
